OUR COMPANY

Based out of Bloomfield Hills in  Michigan, Studio Variously is an award winning design studio & brand founded  by Anjali Purohit. Sustainable design goals are supported  by ethically sourcing the highest qualities of pure natural yarns, plant-based & eco-friendly dyes and combine these with ancient artisanal techniques of weaving & dyeing.

We design our editions in lifestyle products like  scarves, throws, blankets, bedspreads, rugs, pillows, journals, table ware textiles, robes under our in-house trademarked brand Variously. All products are shipped from our company based in Michigan.

 

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN & MANUFACTURING

A woman owned design company, all our manufacturing is pursued ethically by forging only direct partnership ( no middlemen/agents )  with artisan clusters who are experts in ancient techniques of weaving, dyeing, embroideries , all done exclusively by hand. On site visits, daily updates on productions, quality testing for dyes and yarns used in every piece manufactured. The artisans we work with in different parts of India and Nepal are vetted experts in their field , 3rd/4th generation master weavers, dyers whose skills and heritage stories need to be sustained. Majority  of our artisans are women who are involved in processes of hand spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing.

 

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Between designing and manufacturing , a considerable amount of time in invested in researching unique techniques, developing swatches, testing art forms. Collaborating & innovating with our artisans is key to our process, instead of  just replicating what already exists. This allows for improvisation both in design and skill sets, which is also part of our sustainable  goals. For us, beauty lies in slow-made textiles that bring people & their cultural stories together. We are creating this one textile at a time.

 

OUR BUYERS

We ship  to 100+ stores, buyers & companies who are purveyors of excellence in contemporary design and support ethically made brands in USA, Canada, EU, UK & Japan. Studio Variously also collaborates with credible interior design & architect design studios in the US for custom + scalable residential & commercial projects like hotels, resorts, spas and restaurants. We do support private label and brand collaboration to empower our artisans.

 

FOUNDER

​Anjali Purohit, the founder & creative director of Studio Variously pursued her design education from prestigious design schools like National Institute Of Fashion Technology ( NIFT ) , New Delhi,  India &  Nuova Academia Di Belle Arti ( NABA ) Italy.  She has worked for 20+ years for design studios, fashion brands, & exhibited in India, EU , USA in shows like Messe Frankfurt, Milan Fashion Week, International Tourism Show in Berlin and more recently at Shoppe Object & ICFF in NYC. 

Anjali  has advocated for artisan-based businesses & ethical wages at the United Nations during the Artisans Summit in 2016. Through her industry experience, she understood the growing need for ethically made sustainable products. Anjali continues to explore this by forging unique artisan partnerships in India & Nepal , Peru for all her ethical productions handmade responsibly since 2016.

A strong advocate for women empowerment in ethical manufacturing supply chains, 80% of the work force Anjali chooses to collaborate with in manufacturing, design, logistics , merchandising, styling and design end of her business are women. Through her company she also enables livelihood of women artisans in interior and rural pockets.  
Anjali has earlier served as the Board Of Directors of Fashion Revolution USA  and has volunteered for Fashion Revolution / Michigan chapter to educate about ethical practices in fashion. She has  taught subjects like Textile Design, Costume History as an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University, Detroit. Anjali is also recipient to awards like IDA ( International Design Awards ) in multiple categories. In 2019 she was also chosen as the Artist in Residence at Eileen Fisher / Michigan store.
