Layaa By Variously

Layaa is derived from the Hindi word 'Laya' which means tempo , mostly used in classical music, also a source of inspiration to my process, especially during the design & research phase. There is a sense of harmony, rhythm and restfulness in this act of creation which breathes life into our textiles. It's a wholistic cycle that combines imagination , materials & techniques which needs to be sustained & celebrated for making things that matter.

A Confluence By Variously

The short documentary Confluence shot onsite in Nepal, is a narration of artisan's dialogues, giving pure insight to their point of views which also strongly re-connects to the need of creating transparency and accountability in fashion & design industry. Confluence is a small yet effective visual expression of nurturing awareness into process & people who are contributing their unique heritage skills in making of textiles that travel from cluster to closet.

Variously takes you to behind the scenes of weaving in progress at the weaver's workshop in Nepal with whom we collaborate to develop our custom designs for home & fashion textiles. It is our true collaborative labor of love & heritage between Detroit & Nepal ,that is reflected in the contemporary textiles handwoven by master craftsmen & women.
